Chip, Executive Director
Chip has lived in Santa Cruz since 1987 and can be often be
found around Downtown. For the last two decades Chip has served
in a variety of roles in arts and community organizations
including production and stage management, design, technical
direction and consulting for performance groups, artist and
events in Santa Cruz and throughout the Bay Area. Chip has
served as Company Manager for Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Production
Manager for UCSC Arts Division, and Executive Director of
the 418 Project Dance Studio. in 2003, Chip founded the Santa
Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts with Co-Director Kirby
Scudder. Chip currently is a member of the City Arts Commission.
In 2006 Chip received a Gail Rich Award for his service
in the arts Community. He is passionate about promoting Downtown
Santa Cruz as a center for community. Of all his accomplishments,
he is singularly most proud of his eleven year old Jedi Space
Monkey, Carson.
Melanie Smock, Office Manager
Melanie is new to Santa Cruz and delighted to be back in
her home state of California. She graduated Summa Cum Laude
from Wagner College in New York City, where she earned her
B.A. in Theatrical Design, Technology and Management. Since
graduation, she worked primarily in theatre, touring to over
25 states, designing over 35 shows and working extensively
Off-Broadway in a variety of technical and management capacities.
The fiber optic drop she helped to build can currently be
seen on Broadway in In the Heights. She also spent
a year at Conde Nast Publications, first on the Public Relations
team at Glamour Magazine, where she coordinated local and
national television segments, including Good Morning America
and the Today Show, before moving to assist with
the launch of the highly successful new home magazine, Domino.
She is delighted to be a part of such a vibrant Downtown Community.
