The Sustainable Coastal Communities: Challenges and Opportunities series by Soif Wine Bar & Merchants® and UC Santa Cruz’s Coastal Science and Policy program continues on Tuesday, October 15 on the topic of “A World without Salmon.” The dinner and discussion welcomes NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Fisheries Director and salmon expert Steve Lindley and Ian Cole and Charles Lambert of Ocean2table, a community supported fishery, as the featured speakers. Ocean2table will also provide local and sustainable seafood for the evening’s multi-course menu by Soif’s Chef Tom McNary.
Since launching in early 2019, the Sustainable Coastal Communities Dinner & Discussion series brings guests together to not only learn about the challenges and opportunities associated with preserving these ecosystems but leave them with a greater knowledge of the people and activity shaping our current coastal communities. To date, the series has partnered with biologists Daniel Press and John Field, Route 1 Farms and Fogline Farms. Ocean2table is returning for its second dinner, having kicked off the program in March 2019.
The October 15 event is $75 per person and an additional $25 for wine pairing. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Soif at 831-423-2020. A small reception will kick off the evening at 6:30 p.m. followed by the seated dinner and discussion at 7:00 p.m. Soif is located at 105 Walnut Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz. www.soifwine.com
