Come to an illuminating entrance into jazz!
World-renowned artists Art Lande (piano), Paul McCandless (sax & clarinet), John Guenther (woodwinds) and Tim Wendel (guitar) bring Oregonia to the SC Vets Hall on Saturday, November 9th at 11AM. This inclusive experience of Jazz is the second concert in Tandy Beal and Company’s ongoing ArtSmart Family Concert Series. Focused on the lyrical compositions of Ralph Towner & Paul McCandless, this quartet’s music is hopeful, heartful and sometimes mysterious as it echoes the beautiful musical terrain of the band Oregon.
Each artist brings a wealth of musical genres to the music: Art Lande has recorded on ECM with Mark Isham, Jan Garbarek, Gary Peacock and Paul McCandless and on A Field Guide to Sleep (Lullabies for Adults) with SC’s own Jon Scoville. Paul McCandless has won Grammy Awards with Bela Fleck, the Paul Winter Consort, and Al Jarreau. Wendel has performed at Carnegie Hall, toured extensively in rock, funk, jazz, and classical projects and traveled the entire United States playing in the Broadway National Tour of The Color Purple. Gunther has perfomed with Dewey Redman, Bill Frisell, the Dizzy Gillespie Allstars as well as the Sinfonieta Paris Chamber Quartet and the Banda Nacional de Cartago in Costa Rico.
Jon Scoville, the co-founder and musical director of Tandy Beal & Company, suggested an ECM recording of Art’s music for a dance of Tandy’s in 1976 and they have been fast friends ever since!
This is the fifth year that Tandy Beal and Company has presented the ArtSmart Family Concerts with world-renowned artists at affordable prices. The Company’s goal is that by offering great shows, a lifelong habit of theatre-going will be established. ArtSmart Family Concerts Series is part of the Company’s comprehensive arts education program reaching 20,000 youth in 3 counties.
