Once again, the musical-theater production team of lyricist/composer Joe Ortiz and director Greg Fritsch join forces in creating a stage production – this time a one-act musical – called CIRCUS – Knife, Blood & Fire. Working with long-time collaborator, Lori Rivera, the team has staged the musicals SMOKE Cabaret, BREAD – The Musical, and ESCAPING QUEENS in live performances from Santa Cruz to Foster City, from San Francisco to New York. This new show features the talents of premiere local musicians Eddie Mendenhall (piano), Dan Robbins (bass), Mike Shannon (drums), and Frank Buchanan (guitar), plus a few surprise local guest artists. Come hear the twelve songs written for this musical, which is still in development and aspires to be ready for a full-production in spring of 2020.
A charismatic, yet domineering, knife thrower and his wife – linked by love and danger, co-dependence and fatal attraction – leads a cast of misfit circus performer “wannabes” in a Coney Island freak-show. Watch and listen as the chemistry unfolds through images of knives, blood, tears and fire.
