Dayna Stephens, Ben Street and Eric Harland first played and recorded together on Stephens’ debut recording, The Timeless Now, and after a hiatus they have regrouped and recorded their debut Liberty Trio album. This trio takes liberty in using a wide range of textural colors with Stephens playing all four saxophones [from soprano to baritone, as well as the Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI)], Street’s command on acoustic/electric basses as well as Moog KeyBass, and Harland’s eclectic taste in cymbals and percussion. The trio also takes liberty in spontaneously creating a rhythmic language that encompasses traditional swing to out-of-time exploratory realms, with the ethos that liberty is the common ground that we all stand on and can build from.
