Attention middle & high school students! Register now for this extraordinary free summer poetry workshop with notable poet and librettist Megan Levad.
Presented by the Young Writers Program and Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, this free workshop will focus on poetry inspired by Cabrillo Festival’s production of “When There Are Nine,” a musical composition based on the libretto by Megan Levad about the life and work of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This is an incredible opportunity for youth to work on writing with Levad, whose 2017 book "What I Have to Say to You" was described as "one of the best poetry books of the last fifteen years" (The Paris Review).
Workshops will be led by Levad with writing support provided by Writing Project Assistants of the Young Writers Program. Participants will also be invited to attend a Cabrillo Festival orchestra rehearsal and the Opening Night concert! Student poems on justice will be published on the Cabrillo Festival website and a chapbook will be produced by the YWP. Lunch on Wednesday and performances included.
Requirements: Open to middle and high school students only. Participants must attend all workshop sessions. No poetry experience required!
For more information or to register go to the Events page at youngwriterssc.org or call 831-466-5810. Registration form is available here. For more on the Cabrillo Festival and “When There Are Nine,” go to cabrillomusic.org.
