In celebration of Pride Month, pick up a Queerstory Walking Tour brochure now available in the MAH Atrium!
The QueerStory self-guided downtown walking tour launches on June 6, 2026, and will be available all throughout Pride Month. The tour explores various downtown landmarks that played a critical role in shaping the queer history of Santa Cruz. Community members and visitors can participate by picking up a physical tour brochure located in the MAH Atrium. The brochure serves as a personal guide through the streets of downtown, offering a flexible and accessible way to engage with these important local narratives at an individual pace. Featured stops include the former site of Herland, a lesbian bookstore operating from the early '90s to the early 2000s; Commerce Lane, home to the first Santa Cruz Lesbian and Gay Community Center; and the Blue Lagoon, a spot still operating in its original location that was once known to be a gay bar. Support provided by the Fund for the City of New York on behalf of its fiscally sponsored project, the NYC LGBTQ Historic Sites Project.
