Bios of the Former Peter Moon Band Members on Tour:
Robert J. “Bobby” Hall:
An original member of the Band since 1977, Bobby had already been playing music professionally from High School with his own group “Ka’ala”, featuring himself with brother Steve and Brian Hussey.
His incredible vocal range abilities amazed Peter, so he asked Bobby to help him record the first album “Tropical Storm”. Bobby did most of the lead vocals, harmonies, and vocal arrangements and it was an instant success shooting to #1 on the local music charts.
Peter knew he had a hit and needed to get back on the music scene with a band to include Bobby. An accomplished Ukulele player too, he complimented the Band’s mixed musical genres that fused Pop, Jazz, Latin, Rock, Blues, Reggae, Country, Contemporary, and Traditional Hawaiian Music that became the Hallmarks of the band. Bobby also became the front man, emcee, and spokesman for the band, ever eloquent, quick-witted, funny and soothing to listen to whether speaking or singing. His name is synonymous with the name of “Peter Moon Band”.
Dwight Kanae:
Joining the Band in 1991, Dwight brought a wealth of talent in the form of musical versatility, quick learning ability, keen ear for duel guitar leads, exactly what Peter had made his hallmark in his recordings. Dwight could play every instrument with equal mastery and was also incredibly skilled with lead and harmony vocals, able to find and blend vocal parts easily, no matter what type of music it was. An accomplished recording artist on many projects prior to joining the band, and a “Go-To” player on the Honolulu music scene, Dwight was a great fit, and can now reprise most all of Peter’s lead guitar and uke solos with impeccable precision.
He is today a renowned Master of Slack-Key guitar and tours regularly in-concert all over the State of Hawaii and the World on behalf of Hawaiian Airlines and the Hawaii Tourism Authority, but that is only a small part of his amazing wealth of talent and skill. From Pop to Reggae, Country to Blues, Dwight Kanae is a Master guitarist of them all, bar none.
Ocean P. Kaowili:
Also joining the band in 1991, Ocean came from a background of Traditional Hawaiian music. Playing with almost every Hawaiian group performing in a showroom or lounge in Waikiki and around the State for nearly 40 years, as well as touring extensively with shows and bands, Ocean has a unique gift of vocal range and ability as well as a stage presence one does not soon forget. A master of guitar, uke, steel, upright and electric bass, and spoons, his versatility is admirable.
He was also a member of the legendary music group the “Sons of Hawaii” with Hawaiian great Eddie Kamae. This further embedded his place as a master of Hawaiian music and proof of his extreme talent and skills. Today, Ocean provides the music at none other than the famous “House without a Key” lounge at the 5-star Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki, and just performed for the grand opening of the Halekulani Ryukyu Resort, Okinawa.
As if that were not enough, he still holds a career as a full-time Captain for the Honolulu Fire Department, one of the most esteemed and revered Fire Departments in the Nation.
Mark K Yim :
A graduate of the Kamehameha Schools, he started his musical career while there. For over 40 years, he has performed extensively in Hawaii and around the world in great Halls, Hotels, Theaters, lounges, and clubs. He has also served as a teacher and musical director for Polynesian and Local shows.
Auditioning for Peter Moon, Mark was accepted to join the band in 1989. His steady rhythm guitar and vocal versatility, along with his on-stage persona added to the already fascinating performance that the band was famous for.
Though a true Hawaiian musician, his musical resume is extensive, having learned from and performed alongside many of Hawaii’s legendary artists, past and present. Besides traditional Hawaiian music, he plays other genres as well; Swing, Jazz, Classic Rock, Contemporary, Country, Pop, Blues, and more. He has become a valuable musician to call on in a pinch for a gig. Mark currently performs regularly at Nico’s Restaurants in Hawaii.
