In 1985, 29-year old Anthony Ray Hinton was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama. Stunned and confused, Hinton knew it was a case of mistaken identity. But with no money and a different system of justice for a poor black man in the South, he was sentenced to death by electrocution. After three years of bitterness and despair, Hinton recovered and challenged his fate, becoming a transformative force for his fellow inmates as well, 54 of whom were executed mere feet from his cell.
