Reimagining Identities and Fantastic Literature
The 52nd Annual World Fantasy Convention is coming to Oakland! Join us from October 22-25, 2026, at the beautiful Oakland Marriott City Center in downtown Oakland, California. Memberships are on sale now at our website!
Centrally located, and accessible by public transportation from all three Bay Area international airports, the City Center is a fantastic setting for a fantastic convention! This is a four day, immersive experience for authors, editors, publishers, artists, copy editors, booksellers, and fans of fantasy, science fiction, and horror literature. So many cultures relocated to the West Coast of the United States over the centuries, and they brought their legends, their fairytales, and their grandmother's stories right along with them. Those inherited traditions show up in today's fantastic literature among the descendants of these settlers, who have reworked and reimagined them over the decades. We'll explore how the fantastic literature of today built upon the storied foundations of those who came here seeking a better life for themselves and their families.
Our Guests of Honor are authors Ted Chiang and Stephen Graham Jones, Oakland artist Stephanie Law, poet Linda Addison, publisher Bill Campbell of Rosarium Publishing, scholar and artist John Jennings, and bookseller Greg Ketter of Dream Haven Books. Our Special Guests are editor Jaymee Goh, and authors Peter S. Beagle, Helene Wecker, and Cecelia Holland, and our Toastmaster is author Jewelle Gomez. In addition, we will have a Dealers Room, an Art Show, evening events, a Mass Autographing session with all attendees, and the World Fantasy Awards Banquet on Sunday. On Sunday, we will open our Dealers Room to the public for a $10 donation to Chapter510 of Oakland, a literacy nonprofit for kids.
