Worldwide Free Comic Book Day Comes to Atlantis Fantasyworld!
Atlantis Fantasyworld, the award winning comic bookstore celebrating it's 50th year in downtown Santa Cruz, is pulling out all the stops for Free Comic Book Day, now in its twenty fourth year. "What started out as a simple promotion has grown into an established international event," says Atlantis owner Joe Ferrara. "This year over 2300 comic book stores around the world will be giving away over 6 million comic books!"
"The goal of Free Comic Book Day is to bring the joy and excitement of comics to kids of all ages," he continued.
"Everyone who visits Atlantis on May 2nd can take home one each of the Free Comic Books produced just for this event. There will be over 20 comics to choose from featuring familiar characters like The Avengers, Sonic the Hedgehog, Garfield, Dungeon Crawler Carl & MegaMan. New properties like Fort Psycho & many more! This year we expect to give away over 6,000 comics!"
Atlantis is also very proud to host animator and comic creator Mike Kunkle! Mike has worked on numerous projects from Cats Don't Dance for Turner to Hercules and Tarzan for Disney. He directed numerous episodes of Dilbert ,Madagascar A Little Wild and Sofia the First for television. Mike's other film credits include Smurfs, The Lego Ninjago Movie and Into the Spider-verse!
Mike helped Atlantis celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2001 and is very proud to return to sign the first two volumes of his own graphic novel series Herobear and the Kid to help celebrate our 50th! .
But, wait! There's more! Happy Dog Hotdogs will be on site! The first 100 people will get a FREE Hotdog!
Ferrara and his staff are excited to share their passion for comics. "Free Comic Book Day is not only a tremendous way to thank the community for supporting us for 50 years, but also a great opportunity for us to showcase the highly entertaining world of today's comics to new readers. It's our most fun day of the year!"
