Downtown Santa Cruz - A Window Wonderland

The Downtown Association of Santa Cruz and  All Hands Workshops are partnering together on a Downtown storefront window decorating project for the holidays!

Local artists have submitted the following designs, which they will execute using waterproof white chalk marker that can be applied to either the outside or inside of your shop window. The designs are 4 feet by 4 feet, although there is some flexibility on these dimensions. If you are a Downtown business, you can submit your top three favorite designs that you'd like to see on your window!

This project is partially subsidized by the Downtown Association - from a total of $375 paid to each artist, the Downtown Association will pay $200, leaving $175 for the businesses to pay. The Downtown Association will subsidize up to 20 businesses, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In support of our side streets, 10 of those 20 slots for businesses will be reserved for those located off of Pacific Avenue.

All requests to participate will need to be submitted no later than November 20th. Artists will need to complete their designs no later than November 29th.

A small map will be created to showcase venues and artists through December, and the window walking tour will be published in the First Friday schedule of events, to encourage First Friday attendees to take a self-curated walking tour to see your festive storefronts!

Businesses that participate are required to:

  • Pay a $175 fee as soon as request is submitted.
  • Light your storefront windows throughout the season.
  • Have the windows cleaned before artists begin.
  • Have art up from the Friday after Thanksgiving (11/29) through Christmas Day (12/25)

Please review available designs here below, and submit your request for participation to abra@downtownsantacruz.com including business name, contact name and your top three favorite designs, ranked in order of preference, no later than November 20th. Each design can only be executed once, so your first choice is not guaranteed! Remember, the subsidies are first-come, first-served with 50% going to businesses off of Pacific Avenue!
